Miss Hane’s Discipline Techniques in the Classroom

There will be a behavior management traffic light bulletin board entitled “Miss Hane’s Traffic Lane” posted in the classroom with one of the following colors next to each child’s name and photo: GREEN, YELLOW and RED.

Each day your child will start off with GREEN.  Green means your child is having a good day.  Your child has followed all of the classroom rules which are posted in the room and reviewed them daily.  They are:

·         Sit in your chair, Hands on your lap, Feet on the floor
·         Mouth is quiet
·         Eyes facing forward
·         Ears are listening

If your child receives a YELLOW color this means your child has gotten a warning on one of the above rules.  A note will be written in the communication notebook indicating which rule needed review.  Please talk with your child about this note.
If your child will receives a RED color, a note will be written in the communication book along with ‘time away’ which entails leaving the activity for one minute set by a kitchen timer.  The child will be counseled (review of the rule needing practice) after the timer rings and then allowed to rejoin the activity.  Please talk with your child about this note.

Each day, you will read in your child’s communication book what color was earned that day and a short description as to why your child received that color.  (Examples: ‘Your child got a RED today because she hit a peer 3x during group PT’.)
*In special circumstances, the day will be sectioned into parts and the child will get a color for each activity of the day to track specific behaviors.*

**Also, we will also be looking out for your child’s good behavior and award a special sticker or stamp for ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ towards a teacher or peer!

Please review this with your child daily before school and check the communication book after school to see what your child earned!  Your assistance in this behavior strategy is crucial!  Perhaps you can treat your child to special time together for a full week of GREENS

Thank you for your continued assistance, together we will nurture well behaved children!!
