Welcome!
Hw for Fri. June 14
No hw (other than finishing your first body paragraph of manners essay from
class)
Here's some info on my classes:
In Writing, we are learning about and putting into practice the rules of
grammar and the various parts of speech in our Holt grammar books throughout
the year. Exercises are to be done and kept in student binders in their
writing section.
These can be used as notes to study for formative quizes and the end of
chapter graded review and test. We are currently on Chapter 3- verbs,
adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections.
We are ending the year with an introduction to Persuasive Writing.
Students need their Writer's Notebook (marble composition notebook) as a
writing warm-up for the first 5 minutes every day. There will be an effort
grade taken for this each quarter to insure that students are using this time
wisely and effectively.
In Reading this year, we are reading stories with a focus on various
themes and literary elements. We are currently working in Literature Circles
using a chapter books called Holes by Louis Sachar, which we are reading and
analyzing with our groups. Each student is responsible for handing in a
question packet for the book after every 10 chapters, and for writing an
entry in their open ended question journal after every few chapters. Each
student also gets an individual cooperation and participation grade for the
week.
Grading works as follows:
Tests 40%
Quizes 35%
Homework/classwork 25%
Thanks for checking out my page! Stay tuned as it gets updated weekly to
reflect current happenings and hw assignments due!
Best wishes for a great 2013!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rosa
