When is Spelling Homework night and math homework night?

Homework night is Tuesday for Spelling. If for some reason it is not 
done or if you are absent, please send it in the next day.

Wednesday is Math homework night and due on Thursday.

How can I help my child with first grade basics in counting?

All children need review or reinforcement in learning numbers from one 
to 100.  See that your child knows how to say and write numerals form 
0-100 by 1's,2's,5's and 10'.

When do I begin teaching my child money concepts?

1.  This is time to get a head start on leaning all about coins.  Begin 
with the penny.  Then the dime,followed by the nickel and quarter.
Counting change is a lot of fun!
2.  Make flash cards with fact tables.

How can I help my child in reading and skills related to reading?

1.  Work with the alphabet making sure your child knows how to name both the 
upper and lower case letters. A-Z  The letters are called consonants and 
vowels.
2.  Practice writing the letters when asked for a specific letter to write.
Ask children to write words and then sentences. Talk about both telling and 
question sentences.
3.  Read to your child and have him/her participate with word calling or 
phrase reading.  Soon they will be reciting the whole sentence and then the 
story.
4.  Make flash cards with  vocabulary/spelling words.

When should my child attend the town library?

You should already have a library card and visit libraries to get a huge 
assortment of books.

How many kids in both first grade rooms?

We have 14 children and Mrs. Weir has 15 children.  Keep in mind that we
celebrate birthdays together so the total is 29.

When is snack?

Yes!  Young minds crave a snack. However healthy snacks are 
encouraged. We have snack at 1:15 so please pack your
child a healthy quick snack! They will eat one item. I suggest fruits or
vegetables. We have a fountain in the hall. 
Some guidelines are:no candy or drinks.

Can we bring in water bottles from home?

Water is available in the hall near our classroom fountain. The water is nice
and cold.  However students are allowed to bring in water bottles if they
wish. Teacher reserves the right to withdraw the privilege of a personal
bottle if they are too much of a distraction.
