Junie B. Jones and Journal Writing

Junie B. Jones

I read each day to my first graders. The enjoyment of reading Barbara Park series with the book character, Junie B. Jones is one of our favorites.

During the year 2007-2008, my kids looked forward to hearing Junie. This graphic reminds me of Junie B "Party Animal"!

A friend, Mrs. Baker made this quilt for my first grade classroom. Her pink sweater with little buttons is soft to the "touch" Having Junie B.go from Kindergarten to First Grade is shown in the quilt.

My first graders get really excited when you hand them their own Marble book like Junie's Journal. They write daily"Dear First Grade Journal,". This is a great way to teach "Letter Writing" and fun!

Thank You, Mrs.Baker from Ms. Seuferling and her first graders!

Barbara Park: Sorry... but I'm afraid it's the same old advice everyone gives: 1) READ, READ, READ. You absorb so much about writing by reading a variety of authors. 2) PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Keep journals...write poems and short stories...whatever. But most of all.... 3) WRITE ABOUT WHAT YOU LOVE. I love writing humor...but others prefer mysteries or fantasies. Writing should never be a drudge. So have fun with it!

See you later, crocodile! After a while, alligator!
