I will be giving a variety of assignments during the 2009-10 academic year.
I understand my students have different learning styles, preferences,
strengths and weaknesses so I like to offer something for everone! I believe
that we use all subjects in science so don't be surprised
when you see my students doing math, writing an essay or researching history
as part of an assignment!
**Reading from the science text/answering questions
**Getting to know science vocabulary using a variety of methods to ensure
comprehension
**Science handouts designed to reinforce classroom content
**Math calculations for motion, force and energy
**Writing assignments designed to provide a chance to respond to a
classroom activity, a reading assignment or a current event
**On line research of a current event related to class content
**Posters that students will present to their classmates, for example
Newton's 3 Laws
**Lab activity summaries and full Lab Reports
**Home based scavernger hunts where students have an opportunity to take
what they have learned in the classroom out into the real world
5% of the students' grade is based on the organization of their notebook.
It is important to keep all science information together in one area. I give
lots of handouts and a pocket or seperate folder is essential. It should be
with the students each day as we may go back and review prior content to
reinforce or connect to something new. I believe this is a discipline that
will serve 8th graders well when they get up to high school.
There are 4 webites listed on my page that a student can go to to earn extra
points. These points can be added to their final grade each quarter. A
maximum of 5 extra points can be added to a final grade each quarter.
