ARCHERY CLUB

ART CLUB

Mrs. BACON'S ART CLUB

The Thursday afternoon art club is to expose interested students to different media and techniques that may not be available in their general art classes. The students will be able to experience clay, basket weaving, painting and other activities that may be too expensive to introduce to an entire grade in the regular art curriculum. Students are able to choose from at least two activities each activity period. This club is made up of mainly a craft based activities, but depending on student interest, and authorization, the students can also paint murals in the school. There is a multi-media approach in which students can expand, and explore more media, and their talents.

TUESDAY'S WITH MS. T

The goal of this club is to link the subject of Art to everyday life, Functional Art, as well as to further each student’s development with various materials and techniques.   Students will construct functional pieces of jewelry using leather, plastic, stainless steel, and beads.  Also, they will construct various forms of clay pots and boxes, make Mardi Gras masks, make an animal using plaster craft.

CHEERLEADING

The West Shore Cheerleaders help to promote school spirit. Some of the activities we are looking forward to are cheering at the ever so popular St. Patrick's Day parade, Student-Teacher softball game, Student-Teacher Basketball game and visiting Law cheerleaders as guest cheerleaders.  GO WILDCATS!

CHESS CLUB

CHORUS

Open to all students grades 6-8. It meets one day a week and the members learn a varied repertoire of music. Chorus members learn music from a variety of cultures and languages. This group is responsible for performing in the Winter Concert and the Spring Concert. They also travel to one competition during the year. This year’s trip is to Lake Compounce where the chorus will sing and enjoy the theme park. In addition to singing as a part of the large ensemble, students are eligible to audition for solos.

DRAMA CLUB

West Shore Middle School’s Drama Club, directed by Mrs. Amanda Renz (chorus teacher) and Mr. Martin Hardiman (para-professional),  is an extracurricular activity comprised of 125 performers and 20 tech crew members. The club is by audition and meets every Monday and Thursday after school. Each year the drama club presents a full-scale musical. This year the musical is SeussicalTM – a wonderful combination of your favorite Dr. Seuss classics. Through song and dance the audience will be delighted by the wonders of Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, the Citizens of Whoville, and so many more. We will present our show on Wednesday April 11th and Thursday April 12th 2007 at 7 o’clock in the evening. Tickets are available at the door and cost $5.00. The show promises to be a success!

ECOLOGY CLUB

The Ecology Club is an educational hands-on program about the environment.  One of our goals is to maintain and enhance the gardens around our school.  Another goal is to promote recycling in our classrooms.  While working for the betterment of our community, we are having fun and learning.  Mrs. Reilly and Mrs. Randall are supervising the club this year.

FITNESS CLUB

With the help of Milford's Promise and Milford Rotary, West Shore will hold a fitness club on Mondays after school. Through a variety of fitness activities, students learn about the different fitness components.

NATURAL HELPERS

Working side by side with Bridges, students are chosen to become Natural Helpers for their leadership, maturity, and ability to influence others in a positive way.  Students in grades 6-8 are trained to be role models and peer educators for their school and community.  The Natural Helpers get involved in fundraisers and many community service projects for various charitable organizations.

WSMS NEWS TELEVISION

Our goal is to create an 8th grade student staffed television studio that will produce quality live morning announcements, utilizing our video distribution system, and produce segments on various school activities.   The morning shows will be broadcast in house to all classrooms that serve our staff and student population.  Each student will be instructed in the TV reporting skills of: inquiry, scripting, and public speaking.  They will then rotate throughout the TV crew positions of: director, camera person, reporter, writer, and editor.
