  4. What is the best way for a parent to contact Mr. Tracey?

What should each student bring to each and every class?

A student should bring a binder and a pen or pencil. I say a binder and not
a notebook because most of what I hand out has been three-hole punched and
having a binder to store it in increases the likelihood that it can be
easily found.

How are the students graded?

I give grades for quizzes, tests and other assessments, of course, but also
for arriving to class on time, with a binder and something with which to
write, taking notes, refraining from side conversations, and class
participation. I will also try to have some form of extra credit available
for each cycle. Plus, if a student does not pass any exam she or he can re-
take the exam.

Will a student ever use the stuff taught in this class?

Consider the top issues of the day (no, I am not talking about Britney
Spears, Paris Hilton, or the latest home featured on MTV Cribs). Issues such
as global warming, stem cell research, wildlife endangerment, birth control,
human population, HIV/AIDs, avian bird flu, MRSA, genetically modified
organisms, mercury poisoning, and lead painted toys just to name a few. All
of them can be better understood with an education in science. Plus, if a
student ever decides to continue her or his education at the college level,
some sort of science class with be required. Finally, the more you
understand biology, the greater your appreciation for the absolutely
fascinating world that we live on.

What is the best way for a parent to contact Mr. Tracey?

The best way would be through email(robert.tracey@ct.gov). I check this
several times each school day and a few times over the weekend. Next,
calling the school and leaving a message for me ((203) 324-7363). If I call
back from school then it would probably be during a prep period or after
school. If you are not available until the evening then I can call you from
my home but be advised that my number will not come up on your caller ID.
Also, another option is to go to the homepage of this website and click on
the mailbox in the upper right corner. This will bring you to an email page.
