Fran McCrackin is an early childhood educator. She has taught nursery school
at St. Columba's Nursery School and grades Kindergarten, first, and K/1
combination classes in D.C. Public Schools.
Fran is married to Michael Geglia and they have three children; Emily
(currently working in web programming in New Orleans), Beth (doing human
rights work in Guatemala) and Joey (college sophomore in Oregon.) They have a
dog named Lena and a cat named Madeline. She (Ms. McCrackin, not Madeline)
likes to read, write, garden, sew, and go camping, but
most often reads.
During the summers, Fran has been a mentor teacher at the Carnegie
Institution's CASE- Carnegie Academy for Science Education- in Washington,
D.C. In October 2003 she was a visiting teacher to Japan through the
Fulbright Memorial Fund.
She has special interests in developing curriculum for science education and
cross-cultural education for young children.
Ms. McCrackin also teaches origami and unit origami to 2nd-6th graders in
Janney's after school program.

help parents participate in their child's education. To teach children
how to demonstrate respect for themselves and their learning, respect for
their family and school, and respect for their community and world.
