Student Understanding & Agreement
I Understand the Purpose and Value of Independent Work.
I understand that independent work is important to each Intermediate student’s understanding and
integration of his/her studies. I understand that independent assignments help a student to
practice skills and explore concepts. Independent work allows Intermediate students to demonstrate
and/or expand upon understanding of the subject. I understand that timely completion of
homework assignments also demonstrates the student’s ability to manage a growing workload,
to follow instructions, and to meet deadlines.
I Understand My Homework Responsibilities as an Intermediate Student.
I understand that an Intermediate student is expected to complete all assignments on time.
S/he must write down all homework assignments and have a plan for completing them.
I understand that, when a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to get all assignments
and to complete them.
I Understand and Will Comply with the Homework Deficiency Procedure.
If I miss two (2) homework assignments, I will be issued a Homework Deficiency Notice.
In consultation with my teacher, I will then make a plan to complete the missed work.
I will also make a plan to improve my independent work skills.
I will discuss and share my plan with my parents so that they can help support it.
I have read and understand this agreement regarding the expectations for my independent work, and
I agree to comply with it.
Note: Each 6th grade Intermediate student is expected to maintain an assignment book in which s/
he writes all independent work. Homework is written on the board in the classroom. Check with
your Study Buddy if you're absent.
HOMEWORK CHECKLIST
Write the day and date at top of page
Write all of the assignments accurately and completely
Write estimated times for each assignment
Pack-up the materials you will need
Make a plan (place & time) for completing the assignments
Make a plan for completing the long-term work and follow it
