Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I don't know how to begin thanking all of you for such a special Teacher
Appreciation Week. Your generosity and thoughtfulness was wonderfully
overwhelming. You and your children have continued to make this such a
wonderful year for me! A million thank yous for making me feel so appreciated
and needed at Janney. I am so lucky to have found such a special school.
Below are a few announcements for the week.
Announcements
Recess: This week marks the beginning of new recess routines for students at
Janney. During this week our class is learning more about the stations and
options we will have while our new school is being built. Although this
transition will be difficult, I hope students will enjoy the structured play
activities offered to them.
Guided Reading: This week, we will begin guided reading groups. Students will
be grouped into reading groups with students reading at similar levels. I
will meet with each reading group several times a week. The students will be
expected to read and work independently, discuss various topics with other
group members during our literature circle time, and read aloud when
appropriate. These reading groups will focus on building the students’
comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary. I am looking forward to sharing some
of my favorite books!
Lattice Multiplication: This week in math we are learning how to multiply
multi-digit numbers by other multi-digit numbers, using the lattice method.
Like I mentioned in last week's letter, Everyday Math uses alternative
algorithms that may be different from the way you or I learned it. If you are
in need of a tutorial, feel free to visit the Everyday Math website. The link
is on my website (http://teacherweb.com/DC/janney/Brill/t.stm) or can be found
at: http://everydaymath.uchicago.edu/educators/computation/
Barter Day: Thanks for helping to make Barter Day a huge success. It was
great to see the economical transactions occurring around the room with ease.
We have some very persuasive barterers!
