Our week at a glance
What an exciting first week! First day of school excitement, earthquakes, and hurricane preparation…who would have ever thought? Even with all the excitement surrounding our first week our Kindergarteners were able to accomplish so much.
During the first couple weeks our main focus in the classroom is establishing our classroom rules, procedures, and routines. We were able to introduce our routines for the beginning of each day such as signing-in, taking out snacks, answering our daily question, and checking jobs. We have also introduced our morning meeting routines, math and calendar routines, and readers and writers workshop routines.
In order to establish our classroom rules we first talk about our hopes and dreams for the school year. Each child had an opportunity to think about what they would like to accomplish in Kindergarten then write about it. We then came together and talked about all our hopes and dreams and what we need to do as a classroom community to ensure that all our friends are able to accomplish them. The students came up with an extensive list of rules and we are now working on consolidating it into 4 classroom rules.
Last week we were also able to visit all but one of our specials classes and meet our teachers and talk about routines and procedures in those classes.
We are so proud of our Kindergarten class! Last week they worked so hard and stayed focused even though there were so many unexpected events. We are looking forward to a great second week, hopefully without as much unexpected excitement.
Dear Parents
- Please remember to sign the Take Home Tuesday folder and send it back to school on Wednesday. Remove all the papers and send back only those forms that need to be signed.
- If you are interested in begin a room parent please email me (mrshill.janney@gmail.com). Being a Room Parent can be a very rewarding experience for not only your child and the teacher but for you as well. I will need someone who will be willing to assist me in planning classroom activities and celebrations. We would like to have 1 lead room parent plus 3-4 others.
- Thank you all for working so hard to have your students here at school on time. Remember school starts at 8:35am. Students will be marked tardy after 8:50. If you arrive at school after 8:50 please walk your child in and get a tardy slip at the security desk.
