Janney Elementary School
My name is Elizabeth Koruda and I could not be more excited for this school
year! This is my fourth year teaching at Janney and my second year teaching
3rd grade. I am originally from Chapel Hill, North Carolina and am a HUGE
Carolina Tar Heels fan! My parents still live in Chapel Hill and I often go
home to cheer on the Tar Heels and enjoy some southern home-cooking. When I am
not headed south, I occasionally travel up to Boston to see my sisters.
Both of my sisters attended Boston College and have now made Boston their
home. I attended The Catholic University of America and graduated with my
degree in Elementary Education. While attending Catholic, I not only fell in
love with Washington, DC but was a member both the basketball and volleyball
teams. I now balance teaching and sports, coaching both Girls on the Run and
the Janney basketball team. When I am not at Janney, I love to run, read,
travel and relax at the beach whenever I can. I am incredibly excited for
another fantastic year in 3rd grade at Janney!!
Hello, I’m Ruby Carmen. After working as an intervention specialist with
Janney students in grades 3-5 for the past two years, I have the privilege
this year of working as a co-teacher in grade three with a phenomenal group of
I remain a Bostonian at heart, but have been in the DC area for many years
after attending college in Ann Arbor and Evanston and teaching in my hometown
of Newton, MA. I have taught grades 3-6 in public and independent schools in
the DC and Baltimore area and have held positions in administration, as well.
My first love, however, is direct work with students.
When I am not at Janney, I stay very busy with my other passions: reading,
cooking, travel, various forms of indoor and outdoor exercise, and spending
time with good friends and my two sons. I look forward to getting to know you
and to working with your children this year.
Welcome back to another exciting year, Jaguars! My name is Carolyn Walsh
and this will be my second year here at Janney and third year working with
third grade learners! I have taught in Philadelphia and New Jersey prior to my
arrival in Washington, DC. Aside from teaching, I love exploring the city with
friends, and spending time outside whether I’m reading, biking, running,
snowboarding, or simply relaxing.
I am very lucky to come from a large family with three older brothers and
two great parents. My brothers live in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Manhattan,
while my parents hold down the fort in New Jersey. I am itching with
excitement to meet and hear from all of you, August 27th cannot come soon
In third grade we will work hard to master and build on all of the important
skills and knowledge your child developed aready. My goal is for each
child to grow academically and socially, and develop into a life-long learner.
Every student and mind is different and I will work hard to make sure that
each student is challenged, successful and has fun this year!
