November, 2009 Dear Parents: There continues to be a lot of excitement and learning going on here in 5H. We started our poetry unit , the children will be learning about all different types of poems and with the end project being a anthology of their originial poetry. In reading, we are using A Christmas Carol to learn about many literary techniques such as, symbolism, character traits, sequence of events and vocabulary to mention just a few things. We will begin our Weather unit in science after Thanksgiving - we will be studying cloud formation, fronts and weather folklore. In Social Studies we are studying the effects inventions had on the United States. We will be looking through the lens of the war years we covered in the first advisory. Today the following were sent home in the THT: the school pictures (that the teacher forgot to send home last Friday - sorry), a permission slip for Deal, report cards that weren't picked up from the office, information about the basketball game at AU, and a copy of the National Anthem (the fifth graders will be singing at the game) . Please sign and return the report card envelope and the Deal Permission slip. There are quite a number of things we are participating in between now and Thanksgiving.
