3rd Grade Information

Snack:  All students may bring a nutritious snack and a bottle of water to school everyday.  Students place their snack in their desk in the morning when they unpack, and eat their snack between 10 am and 11 am. Also, students are often still working independently while eating snack. Please keep these factors in mind while planning a snack for your child.

Birthdays: To ensure that all students are included, we will celebrate birthdays once a month. Our goal will be to celebrate birthdays on the last Friday of the month, however, this might need to be flexible given schedule changes. Birthdays for each month will be announced in our newsletter.  It is not required to do anything for a birthday, however, if you would like to send in something for your child’s birthday, I will ask for the parents for the birthday’s of the month to work together for our celebration to plan a healthy snack. Parents are welcome to attend the birthday celebration but also are not required.

Homework:  You should expect that your child will have some type of homework almost everyday.  You will always find the homework assignments written in the Student Planner. Both the planner and homework folder will go home everyday.  I encourage you to set up with your child a scheduled time for homework each day.   Students should be able to do most assignments independently, but do help if it is completely necessary.  If you notice that your child had a lot of difficulty with an assignment, please write a note on the Student Planner.

Stay-Tuned:  Ask your child what he or she is studying, and look in the homework folder every night.  The homework folder is where you will find the newsletters and notes that are sent home, as well as any homework that needs to be completed.  Our weekly newsletter will help you keep up with important happenings in our classroom. Our Week in Review will help you review the week with your child.  Please try to send back all papers requiring a signature in a timely manner. I will also send home progress reports, email, or make phone calls if needed.

Ask Questions:  If you have any concerns or are wondering why something is happening, please feel free to call or email me at any time.  I welcome all concerns, ideas, and feedback that affect your child or our classroom.   If something is not working, I am more than willing to talk.  I welcome feedback!

Arrival and Dismal: Please remain with your child at arrival (as per school policy) until the school day starts at 8:35. At dismissal, students will line up outside and raise their hand to be dismissed individually. Please send a dated note if your child is going to go be picked up by someone else so that I can release them.

Field Trips: There are several opportunities to chaperone for our class. Look for this to be notes in our newsletter and Take Home Tuesday. I will mention what the upcoming field trip is and how many chaperones are needed. At that time, you can contact me at Janneyclass3b@gmail.com  to volunteer to chaperone. Chaperone spaces are on a first come first serve basis. Note that if you have already served as a chaperone for a previous trip, that priority will be given to parents who have not yet been able to join us.
