     After the first round of competition,  VJC Bank is number two in their Industry and in third place overall.  The second round of competition begins after lunch at 1 p.m.

Sunday, June 27

 

11:45 a.m. – Depart Wilmington Train Station for NYC

3:00 p.m. – Check-in –Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel

 

·         6:00 - 6:30 p.m.  Official welcome by JA Worldwide associates in the Empire Room located on the penthouse floor. Distribution of Student Welcome Packets and giveaways will be done at this time.

·         6:30 - 7:10 p.m. Icebreaker evening event.

·          7:30 – 9:00 p.m. Dinner at Outback Steakhouse. Casual attire suggested.

o    After dinner, groups are free to explore the city at their own discretion. They are encouraged to consult the Welcome Packet tourist information for activity ideas.

·         10:30 p.m. Lights out. All participants are expected to be in their rooms by this time.

 

Monday, June 28 Preliminary Rounds of Competition

 

·         7:00 - 9:00 a.m. Breakfast

·         9:15 - 11:30 a.m. Competition held in the Empire Room. Competition starts with a review of rules, and runs until 2:30 p.m. Official shirts must be worn the entire day.

o    Welcome address from Citi Foundation.

o    A  JA Worldwide associate will present a brief review of the decision rules and strategy that the students will need to consider for the competition. Round One of competition starts after an orientation and explanation of rules and team placement.

·         Competition starts at approximately 9:30-9:45 a.m.

·         10:15 a.m. Mid-morning snack arrives.

·         11:30 - 12:00 p.m. Free time, students will need to be available for interviews.

·         12:00 - 12:45 p.m. Lunch  

·         1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Round Two of competition held in the Empire Room starts with a review of rules. Students need to come prepared for departure directly from competition to Citi bank for a tour. Students must bring personal ID for entry to Citi location. There will be no time available for students to return to rooms before departure.

·         2:40 p.m. Depart for Citi Center, 601 Lexington Avenue, between 53rd and 54th streets.

·         2:55 p.m. Citi representative will meet group in lobby.

·         3:00 – 3:30 p.m. Citi employee will provide an overview of Citi and talk about careers in banking and the keys to career success.

·         3:30 – 4:00 p.m. Official from Citi will address the current economic situation and what it means for the financial services industry and banks like Citi.

·         4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Free time.

·         6:15 p.m. Depart the hotel lobby to walk 1 mile to Dave & Buster’s, located at 234 West 42nd Street, 3rd Floor. 646.495.2011

·         6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Dinner and activities at Dave & Buster’s. Casual attire suggested.

·         10:30 p.m. Lights out. All participants are expected to be in their rooms by this time.

 

 Tuesday, June 29 Final Round of Competition and Free Evening

 

·         7:00 - 9:00 a.m.  Breakfast

·         9:15 - 11:30 a.m. Competition will continue in the Empire Room. Business attire required.

·         10:00 a.m. Mid-morning snack arrives.

·         11:45 - 1:20 p.m. Lunch at Dos Caminos, 825 3rd Ave.

·         1:45 p.m. Depart for CNBC visit at 90 Sylvan Avenue, Englewood, New Jersey.

·         3:00 – 4:30 p.m. CNBC Tour.

·         5:30 p.m. Free time.

·         6:30 p.m.  Private tour of NBC Studios and Newsroom

·         10:30 p.m. Lights out. All participants are expected to be in their rooms by this time.

 

Wednesday, June 30 Awards Breakfast with Tyler Mathisen

 

·        8:30 - 8:45 a.m. Official group photo of 2010 JA Banks in Action North American Competition in Chrysler I & II - Competition participants (students, chaperones, and competition staff at this time). Business attire required.

·         8:45 - 10:15 a.m. Awards breakfast. Tyler Mathisen, co-anchor of CNBC’s “Power Lunch” and Vice President for Strategic Editorial Initiatives, is special guest and master of ceremonies. Business attire required. Detailed breakfast agenda provided separately.

·         10:15 – 11:30 a.m. Scheduled time for filming and interviews with Students and VIP’s.

·         12:00 p.m.  Sightseeing and Shopping

Glasgow High School's Trust Bank finishes 8th in the JA Banks in Action North American Finals!
 
In the Consolation Bracket,Glasgow High School's Trust Bank team of ShayQuana Abrams, Shamara Brummell, Chantisse Teel.  After a breakfast board meeting, the team regroup and changed their strategies after the hard battle, in the Championship Bracket, from the previous day.
 
During the Consolation Bracket competition, they maintained a first place position until the last two quarters.  Comments and interviews will be posted on the Banks in Action Blog later tonight.
 
Congratulations to the team for their hard work and being Ranked the 8th High School in North America !!

The Christina School Board honored students ShayQuana Abrams, Shamara Brummell, Chantisse Teel and teacher Ed Smith with the Board Honor Roll Award. The award is to recognize the outstanding achievements by students, staff, and schools in the District.  Each student received their plaque and took pictures at the beginning of the Board Meeting recognizing their accomplishment of being one of the Top 10 High School Junior Achievement Banking Teams in North America.
 
The Championship competition is June 28th through July 1st in New York City.

The competition will commence June 28-July 1, 2009, in New York City, with three student representatives from these ten teams meeting on the financial field for the final round of competition. This face-to-face challenge will give the qualifying teams an opportunity to compete in a multi-round elimination event. The final round will determine the first-, second-, and third-place teams. We are very excited to be hosting the event at the Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel, as its location in the heart of New York City near the Citi Headquarters will only enhance the students’ experience.

The five Glasgow Banks continued their competion against 55 other high schools in two rounds of virtural competition that started April 20th.  The 55 high schools where from the United States and Canada.  Round Two ended on May 7th.  JA Worldwide will be making an announcement the week of  May 11th as to the top 10 banks that will meet in New York City for the final competition.  The final competition is scheduled to begin on June 29th.

This year's Delaware competition consisted of the 9 banks from the Business Finance class at Glasgow High School in Newark, Delaware.  Therefore, the winners out of these banks will enter the next phase of competition.  The next phase consists of two round against high schools in the United States.  Round Two will begin right after spring break on April 20th.  The top high school teams in the United States will be selected by JA Worldwide to compete in New York.

Camisoles, spaghetti tops, or strapless tops are inappropriate. The jacket and skirts/dress slacks need not match or appear as suit.

Please dress as the future bank leaders you aspire to be! Dress to impress!!

The JA Banks in Action North American Competition rerun will begin Wednesday, May 7, 12:00 noon EDT. The same usernames/passwords submitted at registration will used for access for this round.
