Mrs. Northey taught first grade last year during the first year of the new
Pope John Paul II School. Before that she taught second grade at Saint Helena
School while completing her Master's in Elementary Education at Wilmington
University. Mrs. Northey had previously been involved in the education of
adults in the training and human resources fields at JPMorgan Chase, a large
financial services firm where she was employed for over 15 years. Knowing her
true "calling" in life was to work with children, Mrs. Northey made a
transition from the business world into the classroom in 2006. While teaching
second grade in 2007/2008, Mrs. Northey also taught computers to sixth through
eighth graders - a bit hectic and not the "ideal" situation but she enjoyed
working with and sharing her technology skills with the older students in the
computer lab.
Mrs. Northey is very excited to be a part of a new school (only the 2nd year
in for the school and so much opportunity at PJPII School)
and is very excited to be teaching first grade - a monumental year in
growth, development, and academic endeavors! She is anxious to meet her new
students and begin an exciting, challenging, and rewarding first grade year
for all.
Mrs. Northey has a second grader and a fifth grader at home that keep her
busy when she is away from school. She has been married for almost 14 years
and enjoys traveling, reading, home projects, and trying to find time for
exercise (a goal for the upcoming year - still!) She is going to be taking a
dance class this year at Anna Marie's Dance Studio with her colleague and
friend, Ms. Russian PJPII's 3rd Grade Teacher and Dance Team Leader.
Mrs. Linda Robinson will be the first grade and Kindergarten assistant this
year. Mrs. Robinson served as the first grade and Kindergarten assistant at
PJPII School last year and prior to that Mrs. Robinson had been with Saint
Helena School for many years as an assistant in many different grades. She is
an invaluable asset to our classroom and to our school!
As a class, we will create a positive, nurturing atmosphere where everyone
feels comfortable to learn and to grow. We will develop a desire to read
and know about the world around us. We will make good choices and be of
good character. We will grow in our Catholic faith and learn how our
relationship with Jesus is part of every part of our lives everyday. We
will work hard, do our best at all times, and celebrate our successes. We
will work to grow and develop and reach our greatest potential. We will be
a hard-working, curious, lively, and caring community of first graders at Pope
John Paul II School!
I BELIEVE.....
.....every child has the right to learn in an environment where they
feel safe.
.....children learn by making mistakes, therefore mistakes are to be
celebrated!
.....every child is smart, we just need to find their smartness.
.....all children need to learn to respect the likenesses and differences
in one another.
.....that change is to be experienced!
.....children learn by example.
.....children learn by doing, messing up, and sharing.
.....children are wonderful!
.....that everyone learns by making mistakes, it is the environment of
the mistake that helps one learn.
