Earth Day Sites - a collection of links to environmental sites

Earth 911.com -Everything about recycling including how and where you can recycle just about anything

This site aims to be a “One Stop Green Shop” and “the first comprehensive source for U.S. environmental service providers available on the Internet.” In addition to tips for greening your kitchen and cutting down on your use of plastics, you can find information here about services (green architects, event planners, and more) as well as products like carpeting and cleaning supplies. Reviews will be added as the site develops. There is an impact calculator that is currently based on a generalized profile, but a full personalized calculator is promised for the near future.

National Geographic Center for Sustainable Destinations

The Center for Sustainable Destinations describes its mission as “working to protect all the world’s distinctive places through wisely managed tourism and enlightened destination stewardship.” To that end, it works with tourist destinations that want to adopt a geotourism approach. On the Web site, travelers can find links to information on eco-tours and heritage travel, destination scorecards, and more.

National Resources Defense Council

The National Resources Defense Council is an environmental action organization. From the Green Living page on its Web site, you can sign up for This Green Life, a monthly e-mail journal, or access the Green Living Toolkit, which provides tips and information on everything from buying a hybrid car to choosing toilet paper. There is also a collection of articles from NRDC’s OnEarth magazine. Some content on the site is available in Spanish. NRDC has a new initiative, Simple Steps, designed “for people who are looking for easy, everyday actions” to help protect the environment and reduce environmental hazards in the home

Reduce.org

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency maintains this site, and although some of the information is specific to Minnesota, there are tips almost anyone can use on cutting waste. Check out the Become a Paperless Office page, which offers an impressive array of information along with videos, PDFs, and animations.

Skin Deep

Even an act as ordinary as brushing our teeth can have an impact on the environment, not to mention our health, because of the chemicals used in toothpaste. Skin Deep, the Environmental Working Group’s cosmetics safety database, rates the hazards in nearly 30,000 products, from baby wipes to styling mousse. The Environmental Working Group is a founding partner of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, which more than 500 companies have signed
