Welcome

Welcome to the Rancher's Class Web Site

This week we completed our spirited Shared Inquiry on whether the peasants in the story actually found wisdom. Also, in Reading, we studied author's purpose in Mary Bahr's The Memory Box. This is an expressive and sensitive story of a boy's understanding of his grandfather's progressive Alzheimer's Disease. The boys and girls are also working on writing a creative dialogue between two famous people of different historical times, entitled "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner." In Math, we studied Step Up lessons on estimating sums and differences, modeling adding and subtracting decimals, and adding and subtracting decimals using place value blocks. In Science, we studied forms of motion and sports' biomechanists. In Writing, we completed our expository essays on the differences between early 1900's Manatee County and modern living in our region today. The boys and girls also wrote creative narratives from the nonfiction story, Falcon's of Third Ave. On Friday, our boys and girls received special instruction from school nurses on Human Growth and Development. Next week, Mrs. Downey will be our guest instructor while I am in Iowa with our OM team for the World Competition. Please remember, your child's new invention (or improved existing invention) and top 25 invention's list is due on Wednesday, May 30. Students will be given some class time this week to work on their invention list.
Good luck to Chloe and Josh and all the OM team members as they compete at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa this week!  Regards, Mrs. B.
