In this
lesson you will learn how to use rounding and compatible numbers to estimate
quotients of whole numbers.
Example:
460 divided by 5
Rounding to the
nearest hundred: 460 becomes 500
500 divided by 5
= 100
Rounding using
compatible numbers: 460 becomes 450 (Why? because 45 is the CLOSEST multiple
of 5 to 46)
450 divided by
5= 90
Further
clarification: Your divisor is 5. List your multiples of 5 until you reach a
number close to 46
Multiples of
5=5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,,50 (45 is the number close to 46)
