First/Second Grade Monthly Newsletter – May Dear Parents, I can’t believe that school is almost over! It has truly been a wonderful year! Even though I’m sad to see your children move on, I am very excited for them. In Social Studies this month, we will be working on our economics unit. We will cover everything from consumers and producers to banking operations. As a final project, students will be asked to create a small business in which he or she will sell some type of goods or services. At the end of the month students will actually be able to buy and sell goods and services at our First and Second Grade Market. In language arts we will be finishing up our Caldecott Medal Winners Unit. There will be no book report this month; instead students will be asked to pick a poem from Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends. At the end of the month they will orally present their poem to the class. They must not only read it aloud, but must act it out as well (please note that they do not have to memorize it). Students will also have time to work on their poetry readings in class. In math we will be finishing up our last unit on measurement and probability. We will also take time to review all the major concepts that were covered this year. In Science, we will finish covering our physical science unit. Students will learn about force, motion, levers and ramps. As always thank you for everything you do! I couldn’t ask for better parents!
