Chaperone Volunteer Number information

Student, Parent and Community Engagement is one of the four pillars supporting the District’s one goal of Student Achievement in its 2009-2014 Strategic Plan.  This pillar of engagement is built from activities and functions that enhance student, parent and community understanding, awareness and support for our schools and District initiatives.

Effective immediately, parents, students, employees and community members who wish to volunteer at a school, region or District office MUST register on-line through the M-DCPS portal(s).

Please follow these steps:

·         Log into the Employee Portal at http://www.dadeschools.net/employees/employees.htm using your employee account credentials.

·         Select the “Applications/Sites” tab at the top.

·         Click on the “Be a School Volunteer!” link.

·         Complete the registration form and submit it.

·         Choose your school(s) and activity(s) in which you wish to volunteer.

Detailed information about the process is available in the attached employee volunteer user guide.

Additional information about the School Volunteer program  and Mentoring Initiatives can be found at: http://community.dadeschools.net/

This is from Ms. Cuba, our Volunteer Liason at Bob Graham Education Center:

Parents (who are not MDCPS Employees):
(1) Parents log in to their Parent portal as usual (if they have not yet set up their account, they would need to do so in order to complete the registration process below)
(2) Once they have logged in, they select the "Be A School Volunteer" menu item.
(3) This will take them to an online application form which must be completed and submitted to the District in order for them to have their required background check performed.
(4) They should select only Level 1 Volunteer (which is for day chaperones as well as other services they can volunter for during the day such as Classroom Helpers, etc.) - if they apply for Level 2, they will be required to obtain fingerprinting which would first have to be authorized by Dr. Behrman and will take longer for their approval to come to our schoolsite
(5) They will then select our school as the location where they wish to volunteer
(6) Once they have successfully submitted their registration to the District, they will receive a notification that their application has been received and will be notified if they have been cleared to report to the schoolsite to show their ID to the School Volunteer Liaison
(7) If the teacher or parent will contact me (via email please!), with the exact name of the parent (I do not need the student's name), then I will notify the teacher and/or the parent once the parent has been approved at the schoolsite as well as provide the teacher/parent with their Volunteer ID number (Volunteer ID #'s from last year are no longer valid.)

Important Notes To The Above
(1) If a school employee wishes to register as a volunteer for their child's school, they follow the same procedures, but they would register through the Employee Portal (under the Applications/Sites menu bar in the upper left-hand corner)
(2) If a 2nd parent of a child wishes to register, they would follow the same procedures logging in through the Community Portal (in which case they would need to set up an account first, then go back in to register as a Volunteer).
(3) If any parents communicates that they are having difficulty registering through the Parent Portal, then they can try through the Community Portal.(if it continues to be a problem, please contact me so that I can further assist them)
(4) For any of you with High School students in a MDCPS who will be performaing Community Service hours as a part of graduation requirements, those students can register to be a Volunteer as well through their Student Portal.

Please email me with any questions that you may have, and I will do my best to respond to you the same day.

Take care,
