I am proud to be a Floridian! I was born in Tampa, FL, but raised in Miami,
FL for the great bulk of my childhood. I attended the University of Florida
for undergraduate school and majored in English Pre-Law, with concentrations
in American Literature, Advance Writing and the African Diaspora. Although
I was admitted into several law schools, growing-up in both urban and rural
communities inspired me to want to work with children. I decided that I
wanted to pursue a career that would allow me to inspire, motivate and
educate students on all instructional levels and to hopefully show them that
dreams can indeed become true.
After landing my first teaching job at Booker Middle in the
fall of 2003, I decided to pursue a rigorous master degree program at Walden
University in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment K-12, which took me two
years to complete; I graduated with a 3.9 grade point average and continue
to use my extensive research, education theories and best practice
methodologies when designing my lessons and units. In the near future, I
plan on applying to Harvard University (which was a dream during my
adolescent years) and pursue a Ph. D in American Studies.
My mission is to inspire, educate and motivate students on all instructional
levels by focusing on the frameworks for gifted learners. The curriculum
that I have designed for Language Arts will focus on the following core
elements: enrichment, acceleration, depth and complexities. My vision is to
go beyond the Sunshine State Standards in order to prepare our students for
the competition and challenges that they will encounter as scholars and
young professionals.
