Let me introduce myself, I am Jacqueline Rogers and I have been a member of the Booker Middle School staff since 1982 when the Middle Schools were formed in Sarasota. I hail from Ohio, by way of Texas, California and Iowa. I have had an exciting life and working at BMS has been the icing on the cake. I attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas and earned my Bachelor's degree from Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio. I continued my education in Ohio and received my Masters degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Anxious to work, I obtained a position with the Lorain Public schools where I worked 4 years as a Media Specialist at Admiral King High School before moving to Florida with my son, Jordan. Being at Booker Middle has allowed me to design and establish two Media Centers and a TV Studio. While at Booker Middle I have had the opportunity to teach Media, Journalism, TV and Drama . In 1999 I was chosen by my peers to represent Booker Middle as Teacher of the Year. I was then chosen as Sarasota County Middle School Teacher of the Year. I was very excited and honored to represent both areas. Along with Greg Nielsen, Burt Epel and myself the VPA Magnet School was born in 1996. Through the years my students have represented Booker Middle as State Winners for Video Production in the following categories: Music Video, Public Service Announcement, and Instructional video. A Documentary done by one student was chosen and shown on The Morning Show in New York. The students have produced a number of outstanding videos, the most powerful titled "Poverty in Sarasota" made a difference in the Sarasota community and nationally. One must love children to teach children. I believe all children can learn, a teacher must find the path each child individually needs to follow to be successful in their classes. " It is through our children performing that we begin to see the soul of humanity."
The VPA mission statement reads "we awaken the extraordinary talents and abilities of students within an artistic arena while maintaining a fine balance between the academic and aesthetic".
