Previous work experience: Child Welfare Social Worker in DuPage, Kane and
Cook counties in Illinois and Manatee County, Florida. Professional Teaching
Certificate in English grades 5-9 and grades K-12 Reading Endorsement. In the
process of K-12 ESOL Endorsement. Taught four years at Booker Middle as an
Intensive Reading teacher grades 6-7-8. Teacher representative on the Shared
Decision Making Team (SDMT). Member of the International Reading Association
and the Sarasota Reading Council.
Personal: Four children (two girls and two boys), four pets (two cats and two
dogs), I love reading, gardening, knitting, yoga, crafts, cooking and politics.
I am a Vegetarian and a first generation Irish-American. I have learned to
take nothing nor anyone for granted, value everything and everyone and believe
that all things are possible. Favorite saying "...find your own light".
Value yourself, value others and be your best. Learn to work together, feel
safe and be respected and respectful as we read, view and write about great
literature. Literature comes in many forms, and is one of many keys to
understanding other people and their cultures, and if we don't invest in
understanding others, we lose our humanity.
