(Though about Georgia this text gives some information about the changes in plantation economy--and from a more hunting/tobacco style to a more agricultural one; Lane notes that with the advent of cotton, the number of Southerners owning slaves was halved (from 1/2 of all land holders to 1/4) while the number of slaves per planter was doubled.)
