What time are the after school tournaments? The after school tournaments are held at University School (3301 College Avenue, Davie, FL) and run from about 3:00p.m. to about 7:00 p.m. Do students have to participate in competitions? In order to get honors credit for Debate I, II, III or IV, you MUST participate in the competitions. Students must compete in three competitions per semester, and they must compete in the entire competition, not just part of it. Students who who do not compete, or do not compete in all three per semester as required, will fail the course. How do I get to University School? From the North: Take Sawgrass Expressway South to 595 East. Exit at University Drive. Make a right turn on University Drive and continue to Abe Fischler Blvd. (the intersection after Nova Drive) Nova Southeastern Medical Campus and the Dolphin Training center is located on the street you are turning on. As soon as you pass the Dolphin training center make a right turn into the campus. Park in the open visitor on the other side of the parking garage on the campus drive. It would be the lot across from the Parker Building that is the overflow for the secured parker lot. Please arrive before 2:45 to avoid carpool congestion. Follow the road to the gymnasium by the Sonken Building and park. If you park in the parking garage, you will be charged. Please drive slowly and adhere to speed limit. What if I have questions about my child's grade in the class? If your child is having difficulty with the course work, then call guidance and schedule a conference. Is participation in the After School Tournaments limited? A school may enter 1-10 entries in each event (Team Debate, Public Forum Debate, L-D Debate, International Extemp, Student Congress, U.S. Extemp, Oratory, Dramatic Interp, Humorous Interp, Oral Interp, Duo Interp, and Declamation (second semester). In order for students to compete, the school must provide a proportionate number of judges. |
