Medical Skills and Services

Welcome to Medical Skills and Services!

This course is an overview of a variety of health careers and medical skills 
that presented on an introductory level.  The goal of this course is to 
expose students to the levels of specialty on each of the career ladders 
while infusing in a few of the hands on skills that may be used in a 
technical medical career.  

Careers surveyed are Medical, Nursing, Psychological, Hospice, Dental, Legal, 
Imaging and Radiological and more. Some of the skills presented are sterile 
technique, medical aseptic handwashing, bedmaking, patient transfers, vital 
signs and charting, dental impressions, cover letter and  resume writing as 
well as job interviewing, and eye exams.

There will be presentations as individuals and pairs at least once a quarter 
for term project grade (25% of quarter grade). This will include power point 
presentations and poster presentations.  Quizzes are on all key terms, 
abbreviations, and career terminology; tests encompass each chapter or unit;  
classwork and mastery of skills is also part of each units grade.



TEXTBOOKS:
The course text is Health Careers Today, 3rd edition by Judith Gerdin 
published by Mosby paired with the workbook. 



SUPPLIES
Please have a 3 ring small(1"inch)binder as there are many handouts, spiral 
note book with serated paper for looseleaf use, yellow highlighter, pencil 
and black ink pen, 4 white only poster sheets, markers set of eight standard 
colors and glue sticks (2).
