About The Teacher
I moved to South Florida from Tallahassee to pursue my doctorate degree in Educational Leadership. My heart and soul is hard pressed on making a difference in education!! You should know I am a DIE HARD SEMINOLE!!!!! GO NOLES MY PROFESSIONAL CAREER IN BRIEF: I served as one of the Ambassadors of Education for the United States. My country of interest was HONDURAS (2009-2010). I was recently named one of Broward County's top Staff of Character (2011).I was also recently invited by The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to speak on the benefits of global education at the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) in New Orleans(2011). Thankfully, in my teaching tenure, I've received numerous awards from Teacher of the Year to Principal's Choice Outstanding Teacher Award to the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction Award to the Barbara Jackson Scholar Award (UCEA) to being selected for Who's Who Among America's Teachers. I have English (6-12) certification; Clinical Educator certificate; National Board Certification; Educational leadership certification; I am a National Writing Project Writing Fellow. I have authored with four colleagues a 250 page in-depth research paper on Identifying and Assessing Barriers That Impede Improving Students Achievement in Florida’s Low-Performing Schools (2008). I am presently working on piece with my esteemed colleague and friend, Dr. Whitney Sherman of Virginia Commonwealth University, titled "Social Justice in Educational Leadership: Where Have We Been and Where Can We GO?" Dr. Sherman and I also presented a piece titled, "Young Women and Faculty and Graduate Students in Educational Leadership: Writing the Unwritten," at UCEA, Anaheim California. I have presented at the Hawaii International Conference on Education (2006) an original strategy I designed for teaching writing entitled, “The Big A.P.P.L.E.” I also presented at the Florida Council Teachers of English Conference, "Parent-Paired Poetry" (2006) and on the topic, “What is Intelligence?” (2005) and on "Holocaust: A literary approach" (1999).Further, I have also, led writing workshops in California and Florida (2005 to Present). I recently traveled to Chicago (2008) to participate in the National Writing Project scoring conference for writing. Incidentally, I have also taught a 3-credit hours summer course on writing for FSU/NWP. I have also done speaking engagements at NHS ceremony (2008) and the FFEA Rally (2008), not to mention numerous speaking engagements and educational seminars at Oaks Christian Academy in Thousand Oaks, California as well as at FAMU and FSU in Tallahassee, Florida. I am published in the Hawaii International Educational Journal, “The Big A.P.P.L.E.” (2006); I am featured in “Florida Standards: A Handbook for Teaching in the Sunshine State,” (2006) authored by Dr. Susan Wood, published by Prentice hall; I am published in Florida English Journal “Teaching Students and Teachers How to H.O.L.L.A. and Break Free” (2004); I am featured in “Integrated Literacy Instruction in the Middle Grades,”(2004) authored by Dr. Carroll, published by Allyn and Bacon. Each year, I attend local and international conferences and I am a member of FCTE, NCTE, UCEA, Golden Key National Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi. I am also a member of the FCTE Commission on Intellectual Freedom. I have given you a brief glimpse into my professional career (for those who need it)- which I can only hope has given you a grand tour of my heart (most important to me); I eat, live and breathe education. NONE of the above matters to me if I have not changed a life for the better along the way. So forget ALL that you have read and remember this one thing: Ms. King cares…. and you will know all that you NEED to know about me.
