SCIENCE FAIR TIMELINE
On January 15, Cornerstone will host a school-wide science fair. Therefore, fifth grade will need to
start our individual projects in November. I have the projects scheduled to be finished on December
17, so the children won’t have to worry about them over winter break. On my website is a link to an
excellent site called “A Science Fair Handbook”. If your child needs help deciding on a project,
this site has a list of possible topics. Below are the dates on which each step will be due. The
forms for each step are attached to this schedule, or you can find them online at the website “A
Science Fair Handbook”.
November 3 - Topic Proposal
November 17 - Hypothesis
December 1 - Experiment Plan
December 17 - Science Fair Project due, complete with backboard
THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD:
1. State the problem - form a question
2. Research the problem
3. Form a hypothesis
4. Set procedures and identify needed materials to test hypothesis.
5. Perform the experiment
6. Observe and record results
