Robotics Team

Welcome to the wonderful world of FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Robotics competition.

WHAT A FABULOUS EVENT!!

The Cornerstone Robotics teams (at least one member of each team) attended the Tempest N Tampa this past Saturday (Oct 25). We had a good time and learned a lot. The people that may have leaned the most was the parents that attended and help transport the team(s). It was a buckwild event that included not only Middle School robotics teams but also High School teams from as far away as California and Georgia. It was held at the Sun Dome Arena at the campus of the University of South Florida. The teams attended workshop sessions for team competition events such as teamwork, project presentation, and game board robotics. We (the students and the parents) felt like this trip was very beneficial to the success of our robotics teams.

We are registered!!! I have registered five teams from The Cornerstone School. These include the Spice Weasels, The Hellbenders (a salamander found in the Southeastern US), The Atomic Bomb-Bots, The Pink Fuzzy Girls, and the Red Hot ChiliBots. We are looking forward to an awesome season.

GREAT NEWS! The Cornerstone Robotics Teams have been selected to host a Robotic Tournament in January 10. This is exciting news because this guarantees us at least one team to compete at the Florida State Championships. This will mean a lot of work and a lot of preparation to pull it off. We need to select a venue, find some judges, find some sponsors, order trophies and medals, etc. It will be a fabulous experience for us all.

If your team wants to have Team themed T-shirts, Team Banner, etc. You need to start planning on getting those done asap! You will have to fund these items per team. If you need any ideas or help with this be sure to contact Mr. Moseley and let him know. It is your responsibility to make it happen. Remember: Our first competition is in Novemember!

This years challenge theme is Climate Connections! The official Challenge has been announced and reviewed by all of our robotics teams. If you would like to learn more about this years challenge and the team requirments, please feel free to check in at flrobotics.org.

What is First LEGO League?

First LEGO League is an exciting and fun international robotics program that ignites an enthusiasm for discovery, science, and technology in kids ages 9 - 14.

Each year FLL teams embark on an adventurous Challenge based on current, real-world issues. Guided by a team coach and assisted by mentors, the kids:

  • Research and solve a real-world problem based on the Challenge theme
  • Present their research and solutions
  • Build an autonomous robot using engineering concepts

Using the yearly Challenges, FLL:

  • Entices kids to think like scientists and engineers
  • Provides a fun, reative, hands-on learning experience
  • Teaches kids to experiment and overcome obstacles
  • Builds self-esteem and confidence
  • Inspires kids to participat in science and technology

No matter what the student's subject interest, FLL offers an opportunity for engagememnt. Whether it is by creativity, technolgy, or research, FLL dares kids to test, explore, expand, or completely change thoughts and approaches for different sciences each year.
