Middle School Social Studies

Welcome Back!

This school year is already shaping up to be one of the best we've ever had. Social Studies will be full of engaging topics, activities, and field trips that will integrate into the curriculum very nicely. Be ready!

As you take a look at the first quarter Social Studies topics below, remember to check back often to find updates and other "not be be missed" pieces of information.

6th Grade

Your textbook is The World and Its People. We'll begin with Unit 1, "The World." Chapter 1 has us looking at the Earth and thinking like a Geographer. In Unit 2, we'll take a close look at water, climate, and vegetation with an emphasis on environmental balance. Unit 3 wants us to understand the world's people and its cultures, so we can appreciate our place in the global community.

7th Grade

A new textbook is ready for us to explore this year! It's titled, Journey Across Time, and it will take us to the ancient world during the first quarter. We'll be making connections to the ancient Greeks and their civilization. We'll also be learning about Early India and Early China. Since our Olympics are being held this year in Beijing, this final chapter should prove even more interesting.

8th Grade

We'll be taking another look at American History using the textbook, The American Journey. We'll pick up from Colonial settlements and move on to the "Road to Independence." This will take us through the American Revolution and the steps Americans took after the war to build a new nation. Thanks to this fight for freedom, we can further appreciate the upcoming election process in November.
