MIDDLE SCHOOL SPANISH COURSE DESCRIPTION
The text used in Middle School is Navegando I A and I B. This
curriculum follows the Florida Sunshine State Standards for foreign
languages that were approved in 1996.
Our main focus will be conversing in Spanish in a variety of true -
life situations with the objective of being able to communicate a message in
Spanish both oral and written.
The main components of each chapter are vocabulary, grammar and culture.
Vocabulary and grammar will help the student learn what words to say and how
to put them together correctly.
Communicating with people from Spanish-speaking countries in a meaningful
way requires a student to know something of their culture. Knowing the
culture will give the student a better understanding of “how, when, and why
to say what to whom.”
Knowing Spanish will create career possibilities for the student. If one can
speak Spanish fluently, opportunities exist in the areas of international
and multinational companies as well as a career working as a translator,
interpreter, or a teacher of Spanish.
Because the number of Spanish-speakers in the United States is growing
so rapidly, being able to communicate in Spanish is becoming important in
almost every career. Spanish is now the third most-used language on the
Internet. In Europe, Spanish is the most popular foreign language after
English.
