--------------

Warning, warning, warning.....

I am about to write a book here.

Wow! Can you believe it? This is our last full month of school. I remember meeting my kiddos for the first time at Meet and Greet like it was only yesterday and here I am with a heavy heart, but proud one too, about to let them go. I am so very, very proud of the accomplishments that they have all achieved and the growth and progress that I have witnessed in the past 9 months.

The month of May is almost a week underway and so much is up ahead.

I hope that everyone that attended Spaghetti Bingo Night enjoyed the event. The children that were going were so excited. I am sorry to have missed it, but I was gearing up for a very busy weekend. My family got together on Friday to celebrate my sister's birthday (a milestone year. ). On Saturday my oldest son, Sebastian, was graduating with his associate's degree from Miami Dade College and then it was out to dinner again. Between both nights I think I gained a pound or two.  Sunday morning my youngest, Wesley, and I played together as a team in a bowling tournament. We won 3rd place, which was pretty unexpected since we were just having too much fun to take it too seriously. We are both very competitive though. Then, after the tournament my husband and I drove him to the port of Miami as he is taking a Hospitality at Sea course through Florida International University on board the Celebrity Constellation. I am so excited for him (and a lot of a nervous wreck too) as he sails to Europe and gets to visit four different countries (Portugal, France, England, and Holland). The next two weeks will be trying without him. When do parents ever stop worrying about their babies? I can tell you that it hasn't yet for me, and my baby is 20!

So, it is now that I finally have a chance to settle in front of the computer and fill you in on some of our upcoming events.

May 8 (Wed.) - Author in Residence Day - The students will have the opportunity to see a presentation and meet Andrew Toffoli.

May 9 (Thurs.) - Please have your child wear clothes that you would not mind if they get a bit dirtier than usual. We will be planting  as we work on our science fair project. Soil seems to be attracted to children, or is it the other way around?

May 10 (Fri.) - Mother's Day Show and Breakfast. The children and I are so excited to share this morning with our mommies. Please have your child wear his/her orange kindergarten class shirt. The show will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. in the cafeteria. Please allow yourself plenty of time in the morning so that you will not be late. Following the show please join us in the classroom for breakfast (served by your child) and some special gifts and surprises from your little one.

May 15 (Wed.) - Kindergarten Round-Up - Next year's kindergarten students will be touring our school and classroom.

Please have your child wear his/her orange kindergarten class shirt again. Weekend laundry. Oh, no!!!

May 17 (Fri.) - Science Lab Day - We will be going to the science lab to conduct our final science experiment of the year.

May 19 (Mon.) - First Grade Get Together - Our class will be getting together with a first grade class (in their classroom) to get an idea of what first grade will be like. If the children have any questions about what first grade will be like, they will be able to hear the answer from an official first grade student and teacher too.

May 22 (Wed.) - Career Day - The children will be treated to several presentations that will teach them about some exciting careers.

May 23 (Thurs.) - Parent Conferences - Parents are invited to attend a group conference to wrap up our school year. Your child will be sharing some things about their school year with you. Conferences will begin at 11 a.m. and run about an hour (maybe a bit longer). I say that it may be a bit longer because towards the end of the conference we will take a trip down kindergarten memory lane and at this time the presentation is still in the works. I am not sure yet how long it will be until I finalize the DVD.  An RSVP will go home this week. Please return it as soon as possible so I can have an idea of how many parents to expect.

May 24 (Fri.) - Teacher Planning Day - No School

May 27 (Mon.) - Memorial Day - No School

May 31 (Fri.) - Wet and Wild Kindergarten Centers - This is a super fun day for your kindergartner. They will participate in approximately 12 outdoor centers. More information will be sent home soon.

June 6 (Thurs.) - Our last day of school.  Early Release - 12:00 noon dismissal.

Chances are that I have forgotten something, so you will probably be hearing from me again. I promise not to make the next Newsflash this long though and I will post above this announcement so that you can always have access to the dates and upcoming activities.

All students will be presenting their poster projects during their assigned date in May. Information regarding the Poster Project went home in mid April. If you have misplaced the project instructions and/or cannot recall the day of your child's presentation please let me know. Please allow your child to practice presenting the poster at home. They need to be able to talk to their classmates about the pictures. All the posters will be displayed in the classroom. You will have the opportunity to view them during Group Conference day. Posters will be returned at end of that day.

We have a lot of upcoming special and educational activities. Along with the special days, it is important to keep the academic focus. The children will continue with their routine as much as possible. Please continue to keep the same routine as well at home. Please continue to check the red communication folder  and read with your child each day. We are currently on Chapter 12 in math. I expect that we will finish the chapter around May 13th or 14th so the chapter test will probably be either May 16th or 17th. The week following I will review the Big Idea 3 concepts and they will take their Big Idea 3 assessment and End of Year Test. I will send home the review pages as I usually do when we are closer to finishing the chapter.

Thank you, thank you, and thank you, for all your support. I am not only lucky to have an amazing class of kiddos, but their parents are pretty amazing too.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
