Expository Prompts

Prompt #1 Television Show
Most people have a television show they particularly like.
Before you begin writing, think about a TV show you like. 
Now write to explain to the reader of your paper why you like this 
television show.

Each year millions of tourists visit Florida.
Before you begin writing, think about Florida as a place to go on vacation.
Now write to explain why Florida is a popular place to go on 
vacation.

Most students think of one school year as their best one.

Now write to explain to your teacher why it was your best school year.

Prompt #4 Important Person  
Many people have shared important moments in their life with 
someone special-maybe a relative, a friend, or a pet.
Before you begin writing, think about the special person or pet in your life.
Now write to explain why your special person or pet is important to you.

Prompt #5 Favorite Activity 
All of us have something we like to do in our spare time.  It may 
be an activity we do with other people or one we do alone.

Before you begin writing, think about one invention which has had an impact 
on the way you live.

overwhelming at school or at home.

times seemed overwhelming.

Prompt #17 Writing Test  
Students in 4th, 8th, and 10th grade in the state have to take 
the Florida Writing Test.  
Before you begin writing, think about what things you think your friends 
need to know so they can be successful on the writing test.
Now write to explain to your friends what things they need to know to be 
successful on the writing test.

Many teenagers believe that their teachers and parents 
misunderstand them.
Before you begin writing, think about what you would like the adults in your 
life to know about you so they will understand you better.

People learn things in school and in life.  What is the most 
important thing you have ever learned?  You may have learned how to do 
something.  Perhaps you learned a valuable lesson about how to get along 
with people.

important thing that you have ever learned.
Now write to explain to the reader of your paper why this was the most 
important thing you have ever learned.

Every community is special and unique.
