Debate II

Debate II:

Debate II is a specialized debate course for those students who have
successfully completed Debate I.

This course will hone the public speaking and debate skills the students
acquired in the first course. Students will continue to participate in
public speaking and team and cross-examination debates. A study of different
types of debate (i.e. Lincoln-Douglas debate) will also be included.

The students' final debate of the year will be on the topic assigned for the
national high school debate teams. Debate II students will be given this
topic at the beginning of the year. They will be assigned to a team and
should research this topic throughout the year. At the end of the year, they
should be thoroughly knowledgeable on this topic and have an extensive file
box.

I would also like to take Debate II students either to watch other schools
debate or possibly have them compete against other schools. This may require
some fund raising by the Debate II class.

Debate II is strictly a performance-based class. To pass this class, students
must actively participate in each assigned debate. They must gather the
necessary research for each debate. Debate II is a fun class with a serious
purpose. I look forward to working with this class!
