Speeches to be covered this year: Introduction speech Personal experience speech Demonstration speech Impromptu speech Informative speech Persuasive speech Persuasive speech with visual Wedding toasts Retirement speech Eulogy Presenting and accepting an award Commencement speech Voice of Democracy speech Possibly--Presidential inauguration speech Students will be required to research their topic, prepare a written copy of their speech, practice their speech, and present their speech to the class. Since this is a performance-based class, grades will be based on their presentations. If they do not give the assigned speeches, they will not pass. They will be given ample time in class to prepare for the speech, but they must also finish their work at home and definitely practice, practice, practice at home. Evaluations of speeches are based on the following: Content: Adequate introduction Main points and support Adequate conclusion Delivery: Eye contact Vocal quality Gestures/facial expressions Body posture Attitude Length: Adherence to the set time limit Preparation: Time on task in class Evidence of familiarity with material Visual: Informative Easy for the audience to see
