FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
What time is my child's lunch and can I join them? Our class lunch time is 11:15-11:45. Absolutely! Sign-in at the Office and meet us in front of the Cafeteria at 11:15! Can Homework be turned in early? Of course, turn it in as soon as it is complete. Do I have to sign the behavior calender every day? YES! This is the only way that I know you are seeing your child's behavior in the classroom. This is our first step in communicating any potential problems. And it also makes sure you see and empty their folder every day. It gives you a chance to communnicate with your little one about their day! How do I contact you directly? You may attach a note to your child's folder, call me at school at 361-6200, leave a message or I can return your call, or you may e-mail me directly at hope_kanotz@sarasota.k12.fl.us Should I work on anything extra with my child at home? Read, Read, Read! The more you and your child read together, the better reader they will become. Play word games, number games, cards, count objects, work on the computer, sing songs, let them help you cook, collect treasures and talk about where they came from, talk about school, give them a paper or a writing or drawing tablet, take a nature walk, make a journal, make labels for things around your house and play games with them by mixing them up... But mostly, read, read, read! And let them "read" to you, too! I recommend that you leave your personal belongings at home. Otherwise, they can accidentally get lost or possibly break. Nope! No rest time for us. We are in the big school now and will try to keep up with everyone. That way bedtime will be a welcoming event, nice and early! (No later than 8:30!!) The first two weeks went well, now my child is crying every morning???? If this happens, it is perfectly normal. At first it's all new and GREAT! And then reality sets in and it's, "Hey, I have to do this EVERY day! ALL day! And Mrs. K. really wants me to work! I have to do something to try to get out of this!" Just be strong, for you and for them. Once the door closes behind them, they really are okay! They get busy and all is well! |
