I graduated from the University of South Florida in 2001 with a degree in
Elementary Education. I plan to graduate from Nova Southeastern University
this year with a Masters in Educational Leadership. I hold a professional
certificate to teach in the areas of General Middle School Science,
Earth-Space Science, Biology, ESOL, ESE, Elementary Education, and Physical
Education.
This year I plan to add Gifted Student Education to my list of
endorsements.
I have spent the last six years teaching middle and high school science. This
is my second year at Highland Oaks Middle. Previously I taught at Newfound
Harbor Marine Institute in Big Pine Key and at Dade Marine Institute-South on
Key Biscayne.
My personal area of interest in science lies in the Marine Environmental
Sciences. In addition to teaching science, I have also worked at as a SCUBA
instructor, canoe/ kayak instructor, boat captain, naturalist, park manger,
aquatics director, and outdoor adventure guide. I try to bring my
experiential education background into the classroom through the use of a
hands-on, challenge-based curriculum.
In my spare time I work as a volunteer for Biscayne National Park. I
regularly invite my science students to join me for science-related
volunteering experiences.
I hope my students find the class both exciting and challenging.
