Reading Plus

READING PLUS

Reading Plus is an online program for students to enhance their reading comprehension while increasing their reading speed. Students were given Reading Plus orientation in the computer lab on 9/11/09. Students are to do a certain number of forty-five minute sessions of Reading Plus every four weeks. They will receive a grade for it not only in language arts, but in all their other courses as well for Reading Plus.

Below are the dates when the Reading Plus sessions are due:

September 22 (four total sessions due), October 26 (fourteen total sessions due), December 1 (twenty-four total sessions due), January 19 (thirty total sessions due), and February 23 (forty total sessions due).

If you can't use a home computer, use a friend's, go to a public library, or use the computer lab at HOM. The lab is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:00 A.M. You sign in by going to www.Readingplus.com and adjusting the site code to highlmidd. Then use your user name and password, which is MDCPS plus your seven digit student ID. If this doesn't work, exclude the letters and use only your student ID.

You may not work in more than two forty-five minute sessions PER DAY as the program will not recognize your progress beyond that point. There's no benefit to doing more than two sessions a day anyway as students will get tired and lose focus. It's better to skip a day or two between sessions.

On the above due dates, the language arts teacher will mark the grades on page 9 of the student's agenda. Students are not to write information on that page. That grade will later be recorded by the student's other teachers.

Remember, by following the program's schedule, you'll have completed forty sessions by February 23 and have gained the maximum benefits from it. In other words, you'll be an accomplished reader who is ready for the FCAT!
