A Bibliography is a list of all materials you have used in your
research. You should list all books, magazines,journals,newspaper articles,
internet web pages and sites, and any other sources from which you have
used. Books are one of the most common entries in bibliographies. The format
for books has three parts: the author, the title and the publication
information(place of publication, publishing company and date). When
additional information is given(such as editor's name or volume number) be
sure to selct the correct from from the examples below.
Punctuation is important.
Follow the examples exactly as given.
BOOKS
Citing a book with one author:
Last name, First name. Title. Place of Publication: Name of
Publisher, Year book was Published.
Citing a Book with two authors:
Last name, First name,(of First Author), and Name of second author written
with First name then last name. Title.Place of Publication:
Name of Publisher, Year book was published.
Book with an Editor
Last name, First name.,ed..Title.Place of Publication: Name of
Publisher,Year book was published.
Book by a Corporate Author
Name of Corporation.Title.Place of Publication: Name of Publisher,
Year book was published.
Book with no author or editor listed
Title.Edition number(if there). Place of Publication: Name of
Publisher, Year book was published.
ENCYCLOPEDIAS/REFERENCE BOOKS
Article in a Reference Book
Last name, First name. "Title of Article." Name of Reference
Book. Publishing city: Publisher, Year of publication.
PERIODICALS
The bibliographic format for Periodicals(magazines, journals
and pamphlets) is similar to that for books. Sometimes periodicals have a
volume number as well as a date. Select the appropriate format from the
examples given below. Follow the examples exactly as they are given.
Periodical article by an author
Last name, first name. "Article name." Name of Magazine. Date of
publication: Page Number(s) of Article.
Periodical article with no author listed
"Article name." Name of Magazine. Date of publication: Page numbers.
Newspaper Article by Author
Last name, First name."Article name,"Name of Newspaper. Date:
Section and page number.
Newspaper Article with no Author listed
"Article Name," Name of Newspaper. Date: Section and Page Number.
Pamphlet
Name of Pamphlet. Company who published it, year it was published.
When the source of information is a form of Electronic Media
(videocassettes, Internet, CD ROM, etc.) or from a Personal
Interview use the appropriate form from the examples below.
VIDEOS, CDS,CD ROMS
Electronic Media
Videocassette
Name of Video.(the word - Videocassette.) Produced by (person's
name), Company who produced video, Year it was published, length of video
(in minutes).
CD ROM
Last name, First name. "Name of Article." Name of CD, Year published,
Company who published CD.
THE WORLD WIDE WEB
Internet
WWW - Professional Site
Name of Page. Publishing company(usually on the home page at the
bottom). Date copyrighted(or date you viewed it, if not available, web
site address from address bar.(ex. <"http:www.eb.com">).
WWW - Personal Site
Last name, First name. Name of Page, date published or accessed by you, web
site address from address bar.(ex. <"http:www.eb.com">).
WWW - Article in a Reference Database
(like Wikipedia or Encarta)
"Article Name."Name of Reference source online. Version number,
Month and year published(usually on the home page of the online reference)
Date you accessed it), web site address(ex. <"http:www.eb.com">).
Interview
Name of the Person being interviewed, title or position or area of
expertise,date of interview.
Don't forget!!!
Indent the second line and any lines thereafter
in the citation.
