Middle School students joined together at the beginning of the school year
to listen to the administrative team deliver a welcome speech. It was
terrific to see the students again and to feel the energy that ONLY they are
able to bring to a room!
The new 6th graders are an attentive group who asked great questions and
seemed really excited about their first middle school year.
Students were informed of any changes in policy, were reintroduced to
teachers and administrators, and listened to the important sections of the
Code of Student Conduct which we encouraged them to read with you, their
parents. If you have not been able to review this important document, you

One other important aspect of the orientation was to impress upon the
students, the importance of steady attendance, punctuality, keeping up with
assignments, and adhering to uniform regulations.
I let the students know how vital it is for them to be considering what high
schools they would like to attend, and the requirements for doing so. Some
of the 6th and 7th graders will need to attempt to take Earth Space Science
and Algebra I or Geometry in the 8th grade in order to be considered for
certain advanced programs in post secondary. Last year, some of our 8th
graders took these courses through the Florida Virtual School(online school)
during the summer. This is an option if your student is capable of passing
the high school courses and is motivated and self-disciplined.
Tip:
Begin checking grades online
Make sure that your child is writing down assignments in the agenda.
Ask for papers that were distributed in homeroom
If concerned call for a parent-teacher conference appointment. Do not wait
until the last moment to seek help.
