Course Syllabus 2009-2010
Welcome!
(Place this sheet in the front of your geography binder.)
Course Description
This course will introduce students to physical and human geography through
the study of six components: Geographic Understanding, Historical Awareness,
Civic Responsibility, Economic Understanding, Cultural Awareness and Global
Perspective. Career Planning is taught throughout the year.
Materials
1. The World and Its People Glencoe 2005 edition textbook
2. Three ring binder (1-2 inches)
3. Loose leaf paper
4. Four subject dividers
5. Pencils/pens
6. Colored pencils, thin markers, or crayons
7. Reinforcers are optional
8. Native language to English dictionary for foreign language students
9. 1 folder for Wednesday
Course Procedures, Expectations and Policies
1. All students are required to keep their notebook neat and organized. The
subject dividers are for: Handouts, Notes, Current Events, and Maps.
2. Students must come to school prepared with the binder, pens/pencils and
homework. Only bring your folder with your current event and extra paper on
Wednesday.
3. Follow this format for heading your papers. In the upper right corner
write the following.
Name
Date
Period
Geography
Activity
4. Check the website regularly. Teacherweb.com
In case of an excused absence, you are required to make up all work in a
reasonable amount of time.
5. Respect others and their property. Absolutely no teasing or bullying. Do
not talk while others are talking. Don’t make negative comments if someone
says an incorrect answer.
6. Always sign in and out to go to the bathroom or water fountain.
7. Plagiarism will NOT be tolerated.
8. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before you eat. Keep your hands away
from your face, and cough into your sleeve/elbow area.
15. Grading Policy
A 90-100
B 80-89
C 70-79
D 60-69
F 59 or below
Academic and effort grades are based on quizzes, class work, home learning,
projects, participation and tests.
Behavior grades are determined by the number and nature of the instances of
intervention by the teacher.
