MAST ACADEMY
ADMISSIONS: General Information
ADMISSIONS: General Information
MAST Academy, part of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, is a School of
Choice. The magnet schools in this district are governed by the regulations
set forth by the School Board. A student may apply during the recruitment
period, October 1st to January 15th of each year. The earliest a student may
apply is in the eighth grade--for a ninth grade position. MAST accepts
applications for grades 9-12.
Students who apply to MAST must do so using the Districts generic
application
To access that application, go to http://choice.dadeschools.net/.
Applications must be submitted to Schools of Choice by January 15th. No
exceptions. Please do not use old copies of the MAST application from
previous years. Private school students must submit an official transcript
Admissions Criteria and Review
We will review academic and conduct grades along with attendance. The
application review is a quantified process and thus points are assigned for
each component. Stronger grades and attendance increase a childs chances of
being entered into lottery (random selection).
The school requires that students applying for 9th grade be enrolled in
Algebra 1 and Earth/Space Science. Students applying for 10th grade must be
enrolled in Geometry and Biology. Students must have an A or B in these
required courses at the time of evaluationand no grade lower than a B in
conduct in any course.
We look closely at attendance. Students who go to lottery will have no more
than four absences in the first semester. Absences above four must be
explained via a phone call to MAST (305-365-6278) after the application has
been submitted to the MDCPS.
We recommend that students submit their applications as early as possible so
that we can work more closely with families in the event documentssuch as
official grades from private or parochial school students--are missing from
a childs file. If you wait until the middle of January to submit your
application and you are missing documents, you will certainly lose points--
and possibly an opportunity to attend MAST.
Again, please submit the generic application directly to Schools of Choice:

1500 Biscayne Boulevard, Room 237
Miami, Florida 33132.
MAST will be notified by Schools of Choice that your child has applied. The
parent/guardian must call MAST (305-365-6278) to determine that the
application has been received and processed. It is also the parents
responsibility to call the school to confirm that the private or parochial
school has sent official grades.
Siblings
Qualified applicants seeking admission to MAST with siblings who will be
continuing their enrollment at the school during the next school year are
guaranteed admission. Do keep in mind that the applying sibling must qualify
for the school first.
Notification
Random selection results will be available on or about March 15th. As soon
as the Admissions Office at MAST has received the random selection results,
we will begin notifying families.
