WELCOME TO THE 2nd Quarter of your 6th Grade Year!

October 27th and 28th
Complete the two charts started in class.  #1 Reading Strategy p. 61 and 
Chart #2 titled: "Climate Sub-categories".   Here are the columns in case 
you forgot ( Climate zone, Location, Characteristics & Vegetation)  Follow 
up by labeling and coloring each climate zone on the blank world map (found 
on page 63).  Include the map's key.  Due Next BLOCK DAY!!! (Tue./Wed)

November 3rd and 4th
Complete the Chapter 2 Review & Assessment Activities on page 74 (including 
the world map activity 1-6). And, study for the Social Studies Interim 
Assessment which includes Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.  Review main ideas 
throughout each Section and the vocabulary words for each section.

November 5th and 6th

Complete the Political Map of South America.  Follow the instructions on the 
back.  Include the capitals of each country (also) next to its country on 
the spaces provided.  Label the front with each country and its capital 
also.  Please indicate the capital by placing a star before the word.  
Bonus:  Color the map and create a map key for an extra credit grade!

F.Y.I.  I will allow make up work on the following assignment above called 
chart #2 called "Climate Sub-Categories" (Oct. 27th) please see "student 
forms" to print out the chart for help.

Write the A,B,C's of Culture.  List the abc's going down your paper and 
brainstorm words for each letter that you think reminds you of "Culture."  
After brainstorming, you may turn to your textbook for additional help.

Complete the following:
1) Guided Reading Activity 2 - questions 1-9 (copied in class). For those of 
you who did not copy the questions in class, I am going to try and type 
these same questions and upload them to the website as soon as possible.  
Check under "Student Forms" to see if its been done.
2) Chapter Assessment Questions page 91 #'1-8

November 24th and 25th ALL STUDENTS
HOME LEARNING:
Create 2 charts 1 for your answers and one for another student to complete. 
Create the charts like the one from last night’s homework.  This time, 
however, you decide what the categories will be.  Please include at least 
eight (8) columns for the categories and five (5) rows for five countries.  
Also try to include various reference locations throughout the book, for 
example: The Gazetteer, The Databank and the Regional Atlases. 
TURN THIS IN MONDAY, NOVEMBER 30TH!

World Geography Economics Lesson 
Using Commodities

Locate Commodities in the Business Section of the newspaper or GOOGLE 
keyword “commodities.”

1)	Choose 3 different commodities from 3 different markets 
a.	Metals(aluminum, copper, silver, gold, platinum)
b.	Grains (wheat, sugar, seeds,)
c.	Energy (gas, oil, natural gas, coal,)
d.	Agriculture (Pork Bellies, 
e.	Or Other
2)	Find out how much each commodity cost for three year’s in a row. 
(2007, 2008 & 2009)
a.	Write down those prices in a chart. (You may make the chart by hand 
or computer using MS Word, MS Powerpoint or Excel)
b.	Then list 5 reasons that these prices have changed over the years. 
(For example, bad weather, natural disaster, new technology, improvements in 
production, war, etc.)  
c.	Complete research on your commodities to find out why the price 
changes occurred. You will want to search for articles written about your 
commodity.   For instance, type: “gold, articles, 2008” or “Sugar, 2007, 
articles” etc.)
3)	Use Google for help.
4)	The sites below were helpful to me.  To use them, try clicking on 
the link, if that does not work, highlight the link, right click the link, 
copy the link then paste it into the address bar above.  It should take you 
to the page directly.

commodity) Use the search bar on this page to find the history of the 
commodity you’re looking for by typing the name of the commodity and the 
year- articles will pop up.

 I. The chart shown above and reviewed in class.
II. Research five events that have occured that may have affected the prices 
of your commodities. (3 commodities time 5=15 statements total)
III. (NEW) Identify organizations or people who would profit from a price 
increase in each commodity and decrease in each commodity.
IV.  Create 3 different graphs showing your research - as seen in class.  
You may draw them by hand.
V.  Write a short summary on what you have learned about each commodity.

a)	Read the section.
b)	Complete a Venn Diagram- Label Circle #1 U.S.A. & Circle #2 Canada, 
in the center write Similarities.  As you read the above pages, complete the 
Venn Diagram - DUE NEXT CLASS!!!! (Last day before break)
a.	You will need to find 8 facts for each circle. Neatness & spelling & 
grammar & organization, MATTERS!!!

ACTIVITIES To assist you in preparing for our Mid Terms.

*There is a second way for you to prepare for Chapter 4 and that is to play 
the textbook games on this website for Chapter 4. 

I repeat Chapter 4 WILL BE ON THE MIDTERM - During the second week in 
January.
