Dear students and parents. Welcome to Lake Stevens Middle School! Thank you for being proactive in education by visiting this website! First, I would like to welcome our incoming 6th grade students to Lake Stevens. This is going to be one of the most memorable years of the student's life...and I am honored & excited to be a part of their memories & education. I want to add that this is also THE year when the students' individual character is put to the test. The changes that we will all witness (based on 11 years of this) may be drastic & could have long term consequences...We must all work together to keep focused on our goals and put our students' needs above our own. My personal mission is to inspire courageous leaders who seek a peaceful life, and provide an atmosphere free from bias and prejudice where students can above all learn what it means to be true to themselves & their beliefs. It is my goal to inspire individuality, truthfullness and self esteem. It is my hope that these are character traits which you, too, value and encourage. I extend an open invitation to contact me as much as needed, provided you also keep up with this website and remain informed as to daily happenings in class. I'd like to take another moment to share with you some mandatory aspects of our class (these are on-going requirements):
#1 - the internet is mandatory...there is too much technology used & needed to not have regular access...so please locate a computer for use on a regular basis...additionally, my classroom computers are free to use each day before & after school on a first come, first serve basis. #2 A USB flashdrive/Storage drive is needed everyday to store & transport computer work to and from home (for all classes:), #3 Blogging - that is sharing ideas, opinions & feedback under Blogs 1 & 2 is mandatory (participation in online class discussions). This strategy serves a variety of purposes...and therefore, is a unique strategy relevant to THIS class and will count as a technology grade. Click on "FOREVER FORMS," above, and read the Rubric on how to blog. The columns will explain how to get an "A". #4 Reading Plus is a District-Wide initiative which Lake Stevens strongly supports, so I ask that students complete at least 3-2 session readings from home each week! Students will receive a Reading Plus grade each week for completing the 3 at home, excluding one from school. See Reading Plus Rubric. #5 Regulary keeping up with watching the Discovery Education videos & lessons uploaded to the Student Portal. Students & Parents ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to learn how to log in to both student & parent portals! Once logged on Students have THEIR VERY OWN "SECURE" dadeschools e-mail ~ #6 ~ I request that students use this email when sending/recieving documents with me. Discovery Education videos are used to support instruction, further instruction or provide additional information relevant to the Social Studies. The Discovery Link is under student applications...I am notified every time a student completes an assingment or watches a video. This grade falls under technology use.
