What does the LHS ChemClub do?

The LHS ChemClub is affiliated with the American Chemical Society 
and members can choose to be involved in service learning grant 
projects, elementary science/community outreach and research 
projects. Membership is open to any students who are currently 
enrolled in a chemistry course or those who have had a chemistry 
course in the past. Membership forms are available from any of 
the chemistry teachers.

What does the lab fee pay for?

The $15.00 lab fee is used to buy supplies for the labs for the 
course and to print the lab manual. The lab manual is teacher 
prepared to fit the needs of the course and students can write in 
them. If for any reason the student is not able to pay the lab 
fee please notify the teacher by email, note or phone call.

Will students have a textbook at home?

Students have the choice of a textbook, a textbook on CD or the 
use of the online textbook. [For the online textbook-go to 
http://go.hrm.com/gopages/sc.html and click on “online 
textbooks”.  Enter the user name lchemistry1 and password e5p6.  
On the next page choose “go to the online textbook”.  Choose from 
the tabs at the top of the page to view book pages, visual 
concepts, activities & quizzes, web links or general resources.]

How much math is involved in a chemistry class?

Chemistry is a math based science so we use algebra and other 
math skills daily.  Students should have completed Algebra I as a 
pre-requisite for Honors Chemistry I and they will need to have a 
calculator every day.

Is it important to have an organized notebook?

Chemistry is a very cumulative course so it is very important to 
have an organized notebook. Students can set up their notebooks 
with tabs for the sections listed on the syllabus and place 
papers in the notebook as we work through each unit. There will 
be graded notebook checks.

Who should take AP Chemistry?

Students who complete Honors Chemistry I with an A average are 
encouraged to take Advanced Placement Chemistry in their junior 
or senior year. Students who pass the AP Chemistry exam can earn 
college credit and the course prepares students for the freshman 
chemistry classes.

Is there homework every night for Honors Chemistry I?

Students will begin work on a problem sheet, lab calculations or 
other assignment in class so they can ask questions if they need 
help with the assignment. They will often need to finish the 
assignment at home.
