AR Policy

Students in Lakeview's AWC fourth grade classes are expected to earn a minimum of 25 AR points each grading period. In accordance with Lakeview's school-wide AR policy, AR will impact the student's effort grade in reading. Those students that earn less than 25 points per grading period will earn an "N" or "U" in reading. Please be sure that your child chooses books that are within 100 points of his/her Lexile level.

For additional practice, you may find practice tests for most AR books at www.bookadventure.com. Many parents find this to be a helpful resource to check comprehension.

Aside from the obvious reading benefits, AR provides children with the opportunity to practice valuable time management skills. We appreciate your support of this policy as we have found it to be a most effective tool for improving reading motivation as well as comprehension. We will continually offer rewards and incentives as a way of encouraging each child to meet this challenge.

Please use the timeline below to help monitor your child's progress in AR. This is intended to serve as a helpful guideline only. We understand that there will be times when students are reading a long chapter book and it may appear that they are behind in their points. This is perfectly acceptable. In fact, we encourage students to challenge themselves with lengthier books.
