What is the pink slip in the homework?

About the pink slip in the homework
First off, I don't use the pink slip. It is used to check to see if
you are reading the weeks story with your child at home. I trust that youre
reading with your child, I dont need proof. I will be sending books almost
every week. These stories are important because they include high frequency
and spelling words, they emphasis word recognition and they practice
multiple phonic skills. It is so important in these next few years that
children read multiple times a day, repeating all these skills makes them
become better readers. If a child is a good reader, there understanding of
text, formatting of speech, writing ideas and many other reading skills are
improved greatly.

What can I do to help my child become a better reader?

Read to and with your child everyday. The more your child is exposed to
language, the easier it will be for him/her to develop and incorporate new
skills in reading and writing into classroom activities.

Help yor child to recognize the high frequency vocabulary words for
automaticity. Automatic recall will help your child with reading fluency and
comprehension.
