Dear Parents,
Wow! What a month of November. The Thanksgiving Play and feast were two very
memorable events. It was wonderful to see so many of you attend the Play.
It meant a great deal to both your children and myself. They worked
extremely hard and the Play was flawless! I am so proud of them all!
We have many special hands-on activities planned for this month as well. As
part of our Social Studies curriculum we will be studying people near and
far. The children will learn about how people from various countries, around
the world, celebrate the winter holidays.
On Wednesday, December 9th, we will have a Gingerbread Day. Mrs. Pedro and I
will get the children together again. We are reading versions of the
Gingerbread Man story, and comparing and contrasting the different stories.
We have written about how to catch a gingerbread boy/girl/man/baby. The
children came up with some very creative ways! We will also complete a
gingerbread glyph. As our culminating event, we will make mini gingerbread
houses out of graham crackers, frosting and yummy decorations. Thank you in
advance to those of you who will donate items.
On Friday, December 11th, the first grade team will present an animated
version of the classic book, The Polar Express. The children will be invited
to bring their pajamas to school for a pajama party and "ride" on the Polar
Express to the North Pole. After viewing the DVD presentation, the children
will enjoy sweet treats, just as the children in the book did. A letter
outlining more details about this event will follow shortly.
On Friday, December 18th, we will have a holiday brunch. Our room mother will
be contacting you with further information about this.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for sharing your wonderful
children with me each day, especially at this time of year. The hope,
excitement and wonderment they exhibit is truly magical.
I hope you and your families have a wonderful holiday season.
Fondly,
Mrs. Chagnon
