Hi,
Before becoming a teacher, I worked as Director of Horticulture at Selby
Botanical Gardens. I was there for 20 years and enjoyed a great career growing
orchids, bromeliads and other tropical plants. I was fortunate to be able to
collect plants in several tropical countries, work with interns from around
the world, and learn from a talented staff. I love to go back to the gardens
and see the specimens that I planted or collected in the wild that have grown
to maturity.
Now I am doing what I really love....teaching kids! This is my tenth year
teaching horticulture at Laurel Nokomis School. Becoming a teacher was one of
the best decisions I ever made.
This summer I became certified as a Horticultural Therapist. HT's use
horticulture to improve the education, physical abilities, socialization
and/or rehabilitation of people with various disabilities.
To instill in children a sense of wonder about the natural world.
